A tribute to Grenville Care

- by Dave Clark

On Friday 31st July we said our final farewell to Grenville who passed away on 20th July after a long illness.

The service was held in Evesham at All Saints Church, and afterwards at the Northwick Hotel. A good number from Carriage and Wagon and other areas of the Railway were in attendance.

Grenville joined the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway in 1982 and in his time he had been with Permanent Way, Signal and Telegraph, and in Operations as a Ticket Inspector, a Guard and a Guards Inspector, and even a spell as Winchcombe Station Master. He joined Carriage and Wagon in 1990 and was with the Department until he retired as a volunteer in 2014. Grenville said that Carriage and Wagon was always his favourite, and when asked what he liked most about it, he said it was the comradeship.

He especially loved working on goods vehicles and here he is happily painting a Dogfish ballast wagon in November 2013.
